Moving into a new house can be both exciting and overwhelming. Exciting because you get to move into a new environment, and start anew. Plus, you get to design your new place with new furniture and home decors. But at the same time, overwhelming because there are just so many things to do in such a small amount of time.

The trick here is to start ahead and stay organized so you can smoothly move and transition into your new home. Here are our top 6 moving in tips to avoid a move in day chaos.

1. Start Early

It’s never nice to cram, we all know that, especially when you have a lot of things to organize. Unless you’re leaving in a hurry, chances are you still have about a month to plan and organize before the big day. First, make a master list of all the things you need to accomplish by day or by week and make sure that you stick by your schedule.

2. Choose the Right Mover

If you’re moving to a farther place, it’s important that you get the right size of transportation that can fit all of your furniture as multiple trips might cause you problems and more money. If you can, you may also opt to ask some of your friends and family to help you with moving your stuff. That way you can save a little on transportation fee. Just make sure you feed them after a hard day’s work!

3. Protect your Valuables

Make sure that your valuables are safe and protected. Place them in a vault that you can properly put a security lock or code on, and if need be, ensure items that of high value. If you are moving in gadgets like your computer, make sure you back up your files in case anything happens in transit.

4. Proper Turnover Utility Services

Before the big moving day, make sure that the previous owner or your landlord has properly turned over all utility bills for gas, water, electricity, etc. You may also arrange your internet, cable, and phone services to be connected beforehand.

5. Pre-Cleaning your New Home

If you can, try to visit your new home before you move in to so you can clean your bathroom and kitchen. Stock some bath towels, and toilet paper so after your long day, you can easily clean up as well.

6. Take Photos

If you’re renting, you might want to take photos of your empty apartment before fixing up your furniture. This might come in handy in the future if you want to move out and get your deposit back.
